Diagram of the baseboard layout

The railway is constructed on two main levels, with the North Shire and South Shire lines (those running between Hobbiton and Buckland) linking the two. At one point (just below the Mine in the diagram) there are three tracks crossing one above the other, although only one is visible because of the scenery. The track decends from the top level on the left, spiraling clockwise through 360° down to Buckland, Bree and Staddle on the right.

Access to the enclosed right-hand section of the layout is under the Bree baseboard.
